General Membership

Benefits

Required Documents:

Recent personal photo + valid ID card or passport.
Proof of study if the person is a student: university ID or registration statement from the university + filling out a personal data form from the BA Membership Desk.

Membership Fees

Monthly:

Students and pensioners: EGP 50

Non-students under retirement age: EGP 50

Non-Egyptians: EGP 500

Non-Egyptian students (non-residents): EGP 400

Annual:

Students and pensioners: EGP 150

Non-students under retirement age: EGP 250

Non-Egyptians: EGP 1500

Non-Egyptian students (non-residents): EGP 1000

Membership Renewal: The expired membership card should be delivered to the Membership Desk and the monthly or annual membership fee should be paid before receiving the new card. For students, a recent personal photo and proof of recent studies must be submitted.

• Getting access to all the services of the Main Library (except the Antiquities and Manuscripts Museums and the Planetarium Science Center).

• Membership cards can be used to reserve computers in the Main Library.
   
• Members can photocopy 20% of any book or 20% of 2 MA or PhD theses.
   

• “My Space” service is provided for annual membership card holders only."
   
• My Space” is a 30-megabyte personal electronic folder in which members can save their files. Files will be preserved as long as the member continues to sign in. In case of not accessing the files for more than 6 months, or in case of losing the membership card, members will not be able to access their files, bookmarks, or saved search history.

Note: A membership card can be obtained for the Main Library for students and non-students.

Researcher Membership

Benefits

Researcher memberships are available to MA and PhD students, aged 16 and above.

Required Documents

Recent personal photo + valid ID card or passport + official statement from the university including the University Council's approval of the thesis topic, as follows:
For a master's degree: No more than three years since the date of the University Council's approval of the thesis subject, as of the date of submission of the statement.
For a doctoral degree: No more than five years since the date of the University Council's approval of the thesis subject, as of the date of submission of the statement.

Or a master's degree or doctoral degree + filling out a personal data form from the BA Membership Desk.

Proof of recent residence with the person's name and address to activate the external circulation.

Membership renewal: The expired membership card should be delivered to the Membership Desk and the monthly or annual membership fee should be paid before receiving the new card. Proof of recent studies must be submitted if continuing with the master's degree over a period that exceeds three years or a doctoral degree that exceeds five years. A water/electricity/gas bill should also be submitted for external circulation.

• Getting access to all the services of the Main Library (except the Antiquities and Manuscripts Museums and the Planetarium Science Center).
   
• Researchers can access study rooms located on the different Library levels. Note: Monthly memberships do not include the service of study rooms. Study rooms are only available for annual memberships.
   
• Books can be borrowed, as the researcher is allowed to borrow up to two books for a period of two weeks, renewable twice (for annual membership card holders only).
   
• Members can photocopy 20% of any book or 20% of 4 MA or PhD theses.

Young People’s Library Membership (12-16 years)

• Getting access to all the activities offered by the YP Library (12 – 16 years old), including computer reservations, mid-year activities and programs, summer activities, volunteering and more (for annual membership card holders only).
   
• Books can be borrowed, as the user is allowed to borrow one book for a period of two weeks, renewable once (for annual membership card holders only).

Special Needs Programs Unit

The membership is free of charge and is issued from the Membership Bureau, on level (E), inside the Library’s Main Building.

• Integrated Services card (original and copy).

For children under the age of 16:

• Personal photo.
• Electronic birth certificate (copy).
• Valid national ID card of the parent

Replacement of Lost Membership Cards

• In the event of loss or theft of the membership card, the Library must be informed immediately to avoid misuse. The member will receive a replacement card by presenting his/her ID and paying EGP 50.

Note: In the case of monthly memberships, the required documents will be re-submitted for the issuance of a new membership.
